In Round 8 of the 2017 Draft the Cougars snagged Saanich, B.C. native Michael Hoekstra who really turned some heads during the B.C. Cup. The rugged forward also has a family connection to the Cougars in the form of alumnus d-man Cody Carlson.

In Round 9 the Cougars stayed local and chose Prince George’s own Mathew Magrath. The talented defenceman has been a Cougars stick boy for each of the past four seasons, and it’s a dream come true for him to now represent his home town team in the WHL.
