Cougars Hockey School and Rep Prep Sessions
Prince George Cougars Hockey School and Rep Prep Sessions
Our traditional Summer Hockey School is open to children aged 5-12, while our REP PREP SESSION, is designed for students aged 9-14 who are preparing for Rep Hockey Try-outs.
Our traditional Hockey School has a strong focus on FUN and FUNDAMENTALS, featuring two 60-minute daily on-ice sessions, along with two 60-minute dryland sessions.
Our new Rep Prep Session is open to students aged 9-14 who are preparing for Rep Hockey Try-outs and features a more intense session that includes HIGH TEMPO DRILLS that emphasize SPEED and AGILITY along with DAILY AFTERNOON SCRIMMAGES.
“Prince George Cougars Hockey School has become an important summer tradition for many families all throughout Northern B.C.,” said Prince George Cougars General Manager, Todd Harkins. “We have carefully reviewed all aspects of our Hockey School, and we feel like we have made some big steps forward in improving the overall experience for the participants and their families.”
All participants can look forward to two hours of daily on-ice instruction from the Prince George Cougars coaching staff and players. Joining the coaching staff will be Prince George Cougars Power Skating Coach, Karen Kos who will be providing her world-class instruction to all age groups. Many returning Prince George Cougars players will be on the ice too, helping all participants improve their game.
The on-ice component includes a heavy focus on balance and agility, puck handling, passing, shooting and much more! There will also be some goalie-specific instruction included (Limited goaltender space is available).
Off the ice, the participants will work closely with Cougars staff and players two hours each day to improve their core strength, balance and quickness and plyometric training. The dryland component will also include field games and street hockey.
Our Rep Prep sessions will focus on preparing for REP tryouts. Sessions will include high tempo drills that emphasize speed and agility, both with and without the puck, compete drills with the emphasis on 1 on 1 play, transitions drills to allow the players to create precise timing and quick puck movement, along with DAILY AFTERNOON SCRIMMAGES.
Harkins adds, “All of our players grew up attending summer Hockey School in their respective hometowns and they are all looking forward to coming to Prince George early to help give back to our community. We’re excited to provide the next wave of young hockey players in Northern, B.C. with a great opportunity to not only improve their skills, but also the chance to interact with their favorite Prince George Cougars players on a daily basis.”
Participants of both the Hockey School and Rep Prep Session will keep their jersey.
