The Prince George Cougars snapped their three-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Spokane Chiefs Friday night at Spokane Arena.

Jonny Hooker, Hudson Thornton, Connor Bowie, and Carter MacAdams scored in the win. Bowie, MacAdams, and Thornton each finished with two points.

Taylor Gauthier stopped 28 shots for his fourth win and had a save of the year candidate in the third period.

The Cougars manufactured two power play goals as they went two for six on the man advantage. The penalty kill was two for three.

Spokane opened the scoring in the first period on goal from Carter Streek at 5:40. Streek’s shot off the rush snuck in on the stick side of Gauthier.

Prince George responded with a power play goal from their captain midway through the frame. Hooker redirected Thornton’s point shot for his team-best seventh goal at 10:29 to tie it 1-1.

The Chiefs retook the lead on a man advantage of their own. Spokane captain Jack Finley put the Chiefs back ahead 2-1 on his power play goal at 15:35.

The was more power play action in the second period. Prince George didn’t squander their five-on-three chance, as Thornton leaned into a one timer as his fourth tied things up again 2-2 with his bomb from the left wing.

Bowie grabbed the Cougars their first lead of the night 13 minutes into the middle frame. The 20-year-old darted down the right wing and picked the corner over the goalie’s glove to make it 3-2 13:15. Bowie notching his sixth goal.

MacAdams added an insurance marker in the third period when he capitalized on a gaffe by the Chiefs’ netminder. Mason Beaupit went out of his crease to play the puck but got caught being too slow getting back into his net and MacAdams was there to bank the puck off the back of the goalie’s pad at 9:30.

Game Notes: Riley Heidt and Ryker Singer returned to the lineup after playing in Ottawa for the last week at the Capital City Challenge. Singer fought Spokane’s Kooper Gizowski in the third period. Friday was just the third time this season the Cougars scored two or more power play goals in a game. It was the Cougars first game in Spokane since Nov. 2nd, 2019, and their first win at Spokane Arena since Oct. 11th, 2019.

Next Game: The Cougars (8-13-0-0) conclude their five-game road trip on Saturday, Dec. 4th, in Kennewick, WA against the Tri-City Americans (4-12-3-0); puck drop is 6:05 pm PT.
