Cougars select forward Lee Shurgot ninth overall in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft

With the ninth overall selection in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, the Prince George Cougars selected forward Lee Shurgot from the Saskatoon Generals U15 AA. Shurgot put up massive numbers in the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League (SAAHL), as he amassed 100 points in just 31 games. The Saskatoon, SK product led the SAAHL in goals with 57 and was second in points. Shurgot checks in at 6’0″, 165 pounds.
“Lee is a player we identified early on in this scouting window. His ability to generate offence is unparalleled. We wanted to add to our young, skilled forwards that we had already in place and we saw Lee as an excellent fit for our group going forward,” said Cougars’ Director of Scouting Bob Simmonds. “His potential, his ceiling is unlimited. He makes the players around him better. We see him fitting in seamlessly.”
For the second consecutive year, the Cougars have used their first-round pick to take a Saskatoon product and a Saskatoon Blazer. Shurgot is committed to play for the Saskatoon Blazers for the 2022-23 season. In 2021, the Cougars took Blazers’ defenceman Tyson Buczkowski 15th overall.
