Tonight’s Game: Tonight, is the fourth of 12 meetings with the Kelowna Rockets. Kelowna has won the first three games of the season series, outscoring Prince George 12-3. Game Notes

  • Prince George will be without forwards Riley Heidt and Ryker Singer for the first leg of the five-game road trip. The two are participating in the Capital City Challenge in Ottawa. The tournament runs until Dec. 1st.
  • With those two missing, the Cougars called up forward Zack Shantz from the Northern Alberta Xtreme in the CSSHL. The 16-year-old leads the Under-18 Prep Division in scoring with 26 points in 13 games. Shantz signed with the Cougars in September at the end of Training Camp. He will wear number 15.
  • The Cougars are looking to string together back-to-back wins for the first time since Oct. 27th, when they won five in a row.
  • Prince George has won two of their first six road games. Their last road win came on Oct. 23rd, at Victoria (4-1).
  • Defenceman Ethan Samson marked his 100th career game last Saturday with a goal and an assist, in the Cougars’ 4-2 win over Tri-City. Samson has 10 points (2-8-10) in 17 games.
  • Forward Jonny Hooker is close to a significant milestone. The Cougars’ captain is seven games away from 200 for his career. Tonight is game number 194. Hooker left Saturday’s game with an upper-body injury, but all signs point to him playing tonight.
  • Prince George will be keying in on their start. Last Saturday they scored three minutes into the game and led after the first. So far this season, their first period has caused them the most trouble. They have been outscored 16-9 in the opening 20 minutes. During their four-game slide, their starts were a sore spot. Last Saturday was step in the right direction and they will look for more of the same tonight.

Game Notes

  • The Rockets are without Head Coach Kris Mallette, defenceman Caden Price, and forward Andrew Cristall. All three are involved in the Capital City Challenge. Mallette is the Head Coach of Team Red, which includes the Cougars’ Riley Heidt.
  • With Price and Cristall absent, the Rockets have called up a pair of 16-year-olds in forward Grady Lenton and defenceman Logan Dochuk.
  • Kelowna snapped their three-game losing streak with a 2-1 shootout win over Spokane last night. Jake Lee scored in regulation and Turner McMillen scored the shootout winner in the eighth round.
  • Jake Lee is having a very impressive overage season. The 20-year-old is second in team scoring with 14 points in 16 games and his six goals are already a career best. He is well on his way to setting a new career high in points too. His previous best was 30 points during the 2019-20 season.
  • The Rockets are one of just three teams in the Western Conference who have not lost at home in regulation. Through six games they are 6-0-0-1. Everett and Kamloops, respective division leaders, are the only other teams without a regulation at home.
  • It’s not how you start but how you finish. The Rockets have scored first in just five of their first 16 games yet, are 4-1 in those five games. Back on Nov. 6th, they were down 1-0 in the second period to Prince George, before coming back to win 4-1.
