Vladislav Mikhalchuk scored a pair of goals in the Prince George Cougars’ 6-5 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Tuesday. Nolan Volcan registered a hat-trick for the Thunderbirds and his line of him, Zack Andrusiak and Matthew Wedman combined for 11 points, as the Cougars dropped their third-straight game.
The Cougars led 3-1 late in the first period, before the Thunderbirds rallied for four unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead midway through the second period. After going behind 6-4 in the third, Josh Maser scored with two-minutes left but that’s as close as the Cougars would get, as their third period comeback fell just short. Tuesday was the Cougars’ fourth-straight road loss.
Taylor Gauthier started for the Cougars, surrendering five goals on 26 shots in 30-minutes of work. Isaiah DiLaura stopped 16 of 17 shots over the final period and a half.

T-BIRDS BIG THREE: The Thunderbirds top line carried the offence Tuesday, scoring five of the T-Birds six goals and combining for 11 points. Nolan Volcan was named the game’s first start after recording a hat-trick. Line-mate Zack Andrusiak had a game-high five points and was named the game’s second star.
IMPORTED GOODS: The Cougars’ two European imports had an impressive outing Tuesday. Vladislav Mikhalchuk scored twice, and now leads the team in goal-scoring with 11. Matéj Toman had a goal and two points is the Cougars’ highest scoring rookie with 11 points.
HELP FROM THE BACKEND:The Cougars blue-line chipped in with five points on Tuesday. Cole Moberg and Ryan Schoettler each had a pair of assists and Austin Crossley had an assist as well. Moberg now has six points (1-5-6) in three games against the Thunderbirds, the most of any Cougars player.
