Prince George Cougars General Manager Todd Harkins announced today that the Prince George Cougars have acquired 1997-born forward Jesse Gabrielle (Moosomin, SK) and a 2017 4th round draft pick from the Regina Pats in exchange for 1998-born forward Lane Zablocki and a 2016 4th round draft pick.

Gabrielle is 6’0”, 214 pounds and was selected by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. He split last season with the Brandon Wheat Kings and the Regina Pats where he combined for 23 goals, 21 assists and 112 penalty minutes. He added one goal, three assists and eight penalty minutes in nine playoff games with the Pats. In 117 career regular season games, Gabrielle has registered 35 goals, 35 assists and 187 penalty minutes. He was originally selected by the Brandon Wheat Kings in the fifth round (100th overall) of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

“These two players slot into their new respective organization’s depth charts, strengthening both teams immediately and down the road,” said Prince George Cougars General Manager, Todd Harkins. “In Gabrielle we get an NHL drafted power forward that is offensively gifted, tough to play against and he brings a wealth of experience to our team. We are thrilled to welcome Jesse Gabrielle and his family to the Prince George Cougars.”

Lane Zablocki was selected by the Prince George Cougars in the fifth round (109th overall) in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. Last season as a 16-year-old, Zablocki dressed in 55 games with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He scored 15 goals and added 10 assists and 114 penalty minutes.

With the acquisition of Gabrielle, the Prince George Cougars now have five NHL drafted players on their roster. He’ll be taking the ice with his new teammates for the first time during Prince George Cougars Training Camp which kicks off on Friday, August 28th at the CN Centre.
