Team Brewer beats Team Hamhuis to capture Rob Charney Cup

95 second was the difference Monday night. Team Brewer scored there times in a minute and thirty-five seconds in the second period and never looked back, in their 6-2 win in the Rob Charney Cup intrasquad game at the CN Centre.

After a scoreless first period, Team Brewer opened their scoring account 45-seconds into the middle frame on a goal from Riley Heidt, his first of two on the night. Then, it was his linemate, Kyren Gronick, doubling Team Brewer’s lead not even a minute later. Koehn Ziemmer capped of the scoring spree when he made it 3-0 two and half minutes into the frame. Gavin Schmidt made it 4-0 Team Brewer through 40-minutes.


Heidt and Schmidt each scored in the third period for Team Brewer and Connor Bowie responded with a pair of goals for Team Hamhuis.

Monday’s Intrasquad was a feisty affair, as the second period featured several tussles and scrums and in the third period there was scrap between Fischer O’Brien and Caden Brown.

Both goaltenders were sharp on Monday, as Ty Young got the win for Team Brewer. Tyler Brennan was tagged with the loss for Team Hamhuis but he had a busy night in the crease and made several key saves.

The Cougars now prepare for their pre-season schedule, which beings on Friday against the Kamloops Blazers at the Sandman Centre.
